Specifications include, but are not limited to: Newport News Public Schools requests bids from prospective Bidders to enter into contract with a qualified vendor to provide and install Spring Roller Window Shades on an as needed basis. General Requirements This Invitation for bid is being issued for the purpose of obtaining a responsive and responsible bidder to provide and install Spring Roller Window Shades on an as needed basis at various Newport News Public Schools and Offices. Specific Requirements 1. Shades shall be institutional quality one-piece steel roller, 1-1/4" diameter or 1-1/2" diameter with heavy duty springs and locking end caps. 2. Shades are to be in new condition and equal or superior to either Draper: Triopak II or C.W. Rice & Co., Inc. Style "C" Single Holdfast Roller Shade. They are also to match existing shades, color, etc. 3. The name of a certain brand, make or manufacturer does not restrict bidders to the specific brand, make or manufacturer named, but conveys the general style, type, character, and quality of the product desired. The bidder is responsible to clearly and specifically identify the product being offered and to provide sufficient descriptive literature, to enable NNPS, in its sole discretion to determine if the product offered meets the requirements of the solicitation. This is required even if offering exact brand, make or manufacturer specified. Failure to furnish adequate data for evaluation purposes may result in declaring a bid nonresponsive. Unless the bidder clearly indicates in its bid that the product offered is an equivalent product, such bid will be considered to offer the brand name product referenced in the solicitation. 4. SLAT: Indiana hard rock maple, smooth and thoroughly seasoned, 1-1/4" diameter or 1-1/2" diameter at the manufacturers' discretion . Alternatives superior or equal to that of Indiana hard rock maple are acceptable upon approval from the Contract Administrator. Pine slats and finger splices are not acceptable alternatives. 5. CORD: Hard braided cotton, size #4 (1/2") attached to slat #211 screw eye and cord clasp. Eyelets are not acceptable . 6. HEMS: Shades hemmed top and bottom. Optional slat hems only. All hems should be double-needle stitched and backstitched . Hems turned so that stitching passes through three thicknesses of fabric. (Mesh fabrics have heat seamed slat hems, and no roller hems). 7. BRACKETS: Plated steel with adequate projection to clear all window fixtures. Types are either outside, ceiling, inside, or flat steel for masonry, depending on the application and conditions. 8. DIMENSIONS: Shades to fit windows with maximum protection from light streaks. Finished length of shades should be no less than 6" greater than window height. Shade sizes are subject to change due to new window replacements. 9. INSTALLATION: Full service (to include installation of shades, service preparation and debris removal) is not required on every job, only when requested by NNPS. The Contractor shall be responsible for measuring shades to be replaced, supplying all material, labor equipment and supplies, surface preparation and debris removal when NNPS requests full service installation. The Contractor shall be expected to take measurements for shades in the early spring and installation in the summer months, prior to the start of school is preferred. Specific dates will be communicated to the Contractor before any installation takes place. There may be cases where the Contractor will have to measure and install after the students have left the building for the day. The Contract Administrator listed herein this solicitation will notify the Contractor when such actions are required. At the completion of any installation, the Contractor shall remove all waste materials and rubbish, as well as all tools, equipment and surplus material. Debris shall not be placed in NNPS trash receptacles. 10. No installation shall occur on NNPS recognized holidays unless requested. If requested, the installation shall take place either during winter or spring break. See calendar link below for NNPS recognized holidays (#14).
