Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Remove snow and ice from parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, walkways, and dock entrance, to include snow plowing, spreading of ice melt. Provide all necessary equipment, ex. Plow truck, tractor with blade, truck with spreader, shovels and operators for all applicable equipment. B. Provide ice melt application to treat and prevent ice following snow removal services, and upon request. All ice melt products utilized to treat ice and snow must be provided in advance and documentation of ice melt product ingredients will be required. C. Provide pre-treatment services before forecasted icy conditions. Pre-treatment shall consist of applying antiicing chemicals to dry pavement up to 48 hours before a winter storm. This prevents a bond from forming between the pavement and the snow and ice after the storm starts. D. Clear snow and ice in a quality manner, and with sufficient frequency which allows for safe pedestrian and vehicular passage and does not promote the build-up of ice. The contractor shall always exercise caution to ensure safety of persons and property. E. Have and maintain suitable modern equipment and tools necessary to perform the services required under any resulting Contract. All equipment shall be maintained in good working condition to prevent unplanned downtime or property damage during snow removal. The Virginia Department of Corrections will not be responsible for damage to the Contractor’s vehicles, equipment, tools or rented or leased equipment. No equipment shall be stored on site, without prior approval from the General Services Manager or designee. F. Remove snow from all designated pavements including roads and parking lots. All snow/ice shall be pushed to the far end of the lots. Snow/ice cannot be pushed into areas where trees and shrubs are. All snow shall be removed completely and cleared in a manner that will not create a flow of water from melting run-off that might freeze, creating icy conditions or interfere with visibility of pedestrians or vehicular traffic. Snow shall be cleared from pavement by use of plow trucks and/or tractors with blades. All snow shall be removed and cleared in a manner that does not block gas pumps, drop inlets, curb inlets, drains, fire hydrants or dumpster access. Snow shall be dispersed in a manner that does not block egress through driveways, parking lots and sidewalks. Extreme care shall be taken to avoid covering or damaging plants and shrubs with snow.
