MONITOR VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: A. Contractor shall provide a 4-wheel drive vehicle for each monitor, for each shift. B. Contractor shall provide fuel or method of fueling monitors’ vehicles. C. Vehicles shall have a valid current inspection and registration from the state where the vehicle is registered. D. Vehicle shall be equipped with at least one working rotating amber light or high intensity amber strobe light. The light shall be in the vehicle at all times. Vehicle hazard warning lights shall be used only to supplement the above-mentioned lights. E. Vehicle shall have tire chains available during the entire winter season. Tire chains shall be installed and in use when road conditions warrant use of tire chains. F. In the event the vehicle gets stuck or breaks down, the Road Monitor shall immediately notify the VDOT Shift Supervisor to which they are assigned. The Contractor shall be responsible for getting the Monitor back in operation. No compensation will be made for any vehicle break downs, out of service status, or inability to perform work. G. VDOT reserves the right to inspect, approve, or reject any vehicle proposed for use by a Monitor either prior to contract award or at any time during the contract period. Once the contract is established, the Contractor shall not replace or substitute vehicles without prior notification to VDOT. GENERAL ROAD CONDITION MONITOR DUTIES: A. Monitors shall report to the assigned VDOT AHQ at the established time to report. B. Monitors shall sign in with the VDOT Shift Supervisor at the beginning of each shift and sign out at the end of each shift. C. Monitors shall become familiar with assigned VDOT snow maps and emergency road procedures. D. Monitors shall patrol their assigned snow map areas and communicate road conditions or other information as requested directly to the VDOT Shift Supervisor. E. Monitors shall report any observed contracted snow removal equipment breakdowns or unusual activities related to snow removal operations directly to the VDOT Shift Supervisor.
