Services to be Performed – Curbside Solid Waste Collection A. The service area for this contract will be the unincorporated areas of Appomattox County, which is defined as those areas of the county outside of the jurisdictional boundaries of the Towns of Appomattox and Pamplin. Based on July 1, 2024, estimates, the population of the unincorporated area is approximately 14,841 people, while the number of dwelling units is approximately 6,117 units. B. The contractor shall collect and dispose of all solid waste placed at the curbside for collection. Solid waste storage containers must be placed by the contractor where originally picked up. C. The contractor shall make every effort to prevent spills of solid waste and shall collect and dispose of spilled solid waste within a radius of fifteen (15) feet of the container. D. The contractor shall provide for separate collection and alternative disposal of electronics, refrigerators, air conditioners, or other household appliances which are or may be prohibited from disposal at the Region 2000 Services Authority Landfill, unless the County makes other provisions for these services. E. The contractor shall not be responsible for the collection, processing and/or disposal of unacceptable waste as defined by the Region 2000 Services Authority Landfill. F. The contractor shall repair or replace any refuse storage container found to be defective. Services to be Performed – County Waste Management Facility Convenience Center The County intends to keep open the convenience center at the Waste Management Facility located at 146 Recycle Lane, Appomattox. This center will continue to accept solid waste, white goods, electronics, brush, and roofing materials and other demolition debris brought in by private citizens of the County. Therefore, the selected contractor will be required to do the following: A. Pull and transport the full compactor containers and replace with like empty containers as needed or as requested by County staff. Transfer the full containers to the Region 2000 Services Authority Landfill until said landfill closes. B. Transport accumulated white goods as needed or as requested by County staff.
