a. Beads shall be manufactured from glass, having a composition designed to be highly resistant to traffic wear and weather. Beads shall be essentially free of sharp angular particles, milkiness and surface scoring or scratching, and shall not exceed the lead and arsenic limits established in American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) M247 Specification. b. Type 1 beads: Glass beads shall be spherical in shape with a moisture resistant coating and shall conform to AASHTO M247 Type 1, except that at least 80% of the beads shall be round when tested in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D 1155, Procedure B. c. Type 3 beads: Glass beads shall be spherical in shape with a moisture resistant coating and shall conform to AASHTO M247 Type 3, except that at least 80% of the beads shall be round when tested in accordance with ASTM D 1155, Procedure B. d. “Intermix Drying System” shall be able to be dispensed from the existing Tanks on VDOT Paint Trucks formulated for application on VDOT Standard Specification Traffic Paint, and on High-Build Traffic Paint. The current product used by VDOT is Visilok. Visilok has been tested and approved by VDOT, including the dispensing tank and dispensing gun additions to, and calibrations of VDOT Paint Trucks. Any submitted alternative Drying Agents shall be pre-tested and shown to provide equal or better drying time and provide the same retained durability of the traffic paints used by VDOT, when compared to both with, and without, the Drying Agent. The “Intermix Drying System” shall correctly dispense the product from the tank, through the hose and dispensing gun on VDOT Trucks at all the varying drop rates that VDOT uses. e. Unless otherwise approved alternative, one Truck Load of Visilok shall be 56, 35-pound bags per pallet, distributed onto 22 pallets (43,120 pounds). A half Truck Load shall be 56, 35-pound bags per pallet on eleven (11) pallets (21,560 pounds). If requested, delivery shall be in the form of 350-pound drums, four (4) per pallet, distributed onto 24 pallets for one (1) Truck Load (33,600 pounds) and 350-pound drums, four (4) per pallet, distributed onto twelve (12) pallets for a half Truck Load (16,800 pounds).
