Specifications include, but are not limited to: The County’s Solid Waste Bureau (SWB), which is part of the Department of Environmental Services (DES), contracts out for collections programs and services for 33,200 single-family homes (includes both attached and detached). Current base household services include weekly pickup of garbage, singlestream recyclables, and Yard Trimmings. Collections are semi-automated, with 64-gallons being the standard cart volume. Residents typically load yard trimmings into their carts loose or in kraft paper bags. Residents are also permitted to set yard trimmings out in personal household containers, and in bundles not to exceed 4’ in length by 4” in diameter. Other residential collection services include seasonal leaf collections and vacuuming, brush and Christmas tree collections. These collections are performed by crews from the Solid Waste Bureau. The County is issuing this RFI in order to better understand the availability and range of options for acceptance and processing of commingled organic materials collected from the County’s curbside program. The County is expressly interested in options in which residents can commingle food scraps with yard trimmings in the same collection container.
