This RFI is designed to support VDOT in its planning for the next procurement of its ATMS and STSS solution(s). This RFI seeks to provide the industry with background on VDOT’s current Traffic Operations program, communicate the Department’s long-term vision, and gather input that can inform future strategies and implementation efforts. VDOT is not soliciting detailed solution proposals at this stage. Instead, the Department is seeking perspectives, proven practices, and lessons learned from private sector partners regarding challenges in traffic operations, system integration, automation, and innovation. Of particular interest are insights grounded in real-world experience that can help shape future partnerships, enhance operational efficiency, and guide the design of a long-term modern, resilient, and interoperable traffic management ecosystem. The objectives outlined below serve as the foundation for the RFI and guide the organization of the questions that follow. • Inform potential private sector partners of VDOT's existing Traffic Operations program. • Articulate agency's desire and solicit input on how to establish a partnership that will drive continuous improvement and operational stability. • Invite respondents to share their comments and insights on innovation, best practices, and emerging industry trends. • Of particular interest to VDOT is how current and future market solutions, with collaboration and partnership, can streamline the user experience through automation and advanced features (e.g., streamlining user actions to improve efficiency). • Gather information on interoperability and integration between platforms, solutions, and external data sources and where industry recommends such integrations. • Foster awareness and understanding of the Commonwealth's cybersecurity requirements.
