The Batten Arts and Letters Building (BAL) was built in 1970 with an addition/renovation in 2005. The nine-story concrete frame structure has brick veneer and aluminum windows. The Agency is seeking upgrades to BAL as it has the highest level of weekly student contact hours for the student body on the entire campus. BAL has aging infrastructure with some renovations completed throughout the building over the last 10-20 years. The Agency seeks to upgrade classrooms, stairwells, and corridors, which are all areas that have become stagnant and require attention. Key elements to this scope include improvements on floors 1-3, which include, but are not limited to, refresh all classrooms and corridors, ADA ramp upgrade at the front entrance, upgrade wayfinding signage, and covering CMU with drywall/paint. Additional scope items include front exterior storefront door replacement (level 1), boilers and VAV equipment evaluation/replacement, exterior window calking evaluation/replacement, added power/data to study areas, the addition of insulation between classroom dividing walls, upgrading restrooms, improving the main stairwell, and updating the classroom window blinds. The area impacted is approximately 30,000 NSF of proposed improvements which will require the selected A/E to evaluate existing building spaces as noted above. Floor plans of the existing building are provided for reference.
