Specifications include, but are not limited to:expanding the current King George Middle School to accommodate, at minimum, 425 sixth grade students. It is expected that the proposal will address, in addition to other requirements included in this RFP, needs referenced in King George County School Board Policy FEA to include: (1) all activities expected to take place in the new expansion; (2) the curriculum and programs to be delivered and hosted within the expansion; (3) architectural characteristics desired by the school division and; (4) the facilities and equipment, including access control, needed as well as the relationship between the existing structure and the proposed expansion. The new expansion to the current King George Middle School must be designed in a manner that allows for the varying needs of students to be met. More specifically the expansion must allow for best practices in teaching and learning such as: (1) incorporating innovative technology into all learning spaces; (2) active and project-based learning; (3) individualized and student-centered learning; (4) flexibility as far as instructional delivery including varied sizes of student groups.
