1. The Contractor shall be capable of providing the following tow vehicle types: a. Heavy Duty Wrecker, Multi-Axle 25 Ton Minimum boom rating, greater than 33,000 lbs. GVWR with an operator and capable of towing a minimum of 80,000 lbs. (TRAA Class 8). b. Light Duty 4X4 wrecker up to 10,000 lbs. GVWR. (TRAA Class 2). 2. Minimum equipment numbers can be found in section IV.H. Bid Pricing Schedule. 3. Services are primarily to assist and/or move vehicles that are stuck or otherwise impeding the flow of traffic from the roadway during emergency and special events; however, these services may be requested to assist during other events as determined by VDOT. Note: Towing as a result of an accident may be handled by the State Police and will not be covered by this contract. The contractor may be required to tow VDOT equipment in case of breakdown and/or VDOT equipment becoming stuck or otherwise impeding the flow of traffic from the roadways. Towing of VDOT equipment will be authorized by a VDOT representative prior to towing any VDOT equipment. 4. Roadways are defined as travel lanes, shoulder, and ramp/interchange areas. Vehicles shall be relocated to the nearest safe location (as designated by VDOT) from the travel portion of the roadway. In most cases, vehicles will not be towed to a storage location. Under extreme circumstances, when multiple vehicles require towing, VDOT will designate a location to tow disabled vehicles.
