6.1. Mental Health & Wellness Services for Law Enforcement: a. Under the command structure of the James City County Police Department at the discretion of the Chief of Police, provide direct, advanced level, mental health and wellness services including training and consultation to officers to help address police related stressors, concerns and issues. b. Care modalities will be individual sessions. c. Provide all sworn police department personnel with annual one on one “mental wellness education” sessions with a licensed mental health provider in order to assist its officers with their own mental wellness by presenting pre-arranged mental health content/material and, in addition, provide the officer with a private one on one venue with which the officer can elect to take the opportunity to engage and share any personal psychological/emotional issues the officer has been experiencing. d. Facilitate referrals to conjunctive and/or alternative care services when appropriate. e. Identify psychological/emotional needs and potential clinical trends experienced by officers. f. Offer feedback and ideas for additional tasks, services, etc. to improve the overall program. g. Assist the James City County Police Department develop, implement, and evaluate psychological/emotional wellness and prevention programs (e.g., brown bag seminars, stress management workshops, and self-care strategies, and couples and family communication classes) in response to identified and anticipated needs. h. While providing psychological/mental health/wellness services, adhere to all relevant laws and ethics to uphold confidentiality.
