Specifications include, but are not limited to: Services will include, but not limited to, supervised management of site conditions, grounds clean up, snow removal, landscaping, leaf removal, edging, mowing, mulching and plant and lawn care. 1. TREES: a. Trees shall be maintained in a healthy, vigorous growing condition free from disease and large concentrations of pests. b. Prune trees only to remove dead, diseased, broken, dangerous or crossing branches. Pruning of this type shall be minor. This is a non-reimbursable cost that shall be included as part of the normal lawn care services. c. To prevent damages to the trees, trimming around all trees and exposed trunks and roots shall not be done with a weed eater. Instead, herbicides that are designed specifically for grasses and weeds shall be used. The Contractor may also hand pull the grasses or weeds around the trunks and roots. d. Trees must be pruned in December and January in accordance with ANSI 300. e. Cutting blades on pruning shears, clippers, blades, saws, etc. should be sterilized after pruning infected areas before proceeding to the next tree or shrub to minimize the spread of disease. f. Vertical clearance of one hundred and twenty-inches (120”) is required above all parking areas. A vertical clearance of eighty inches (80”) is required above all walkways. The Contractor shall trim trees to remove all limbs within these areas. Dump fees shall be included in this bid price. g. Prior authorization shall be obtained before ANY ornamental trees are pruned. The Contract Administrator will identify these trees prior to or on the first day of lawn care work. 2. GROUNDCOVER: Groundcover shall be maintained in a healthy, vigorous growing condition. Any groundcover plants found dead or missing shall be replaced with plant material of identical species. Replacement groundcover shall be planted at an eight (8) inch spacing from the flats to encourage quick coverage and shall be planted by the requirements of the species. Prior to planting, the Contractor shall submit a field drawing for the layout and information about the plant species for approval. After approval by the Contract Administrator, the soil shall be well prepared for planting and then mulching. 3. CHEMICAL, HERBICIDES, PESTICIDES: The Contractor shall take precautions to keep persons away from pesticide and herbicide treated areas until the applied material is fully dry and/or the treated areas is safe for entry. Pesticides and herbicides shall be used in accordance with label directions and the manufacturer’s recommended handling methods. When in use, the applicator or technician must have a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) on site. Applications must be performed per site visit, and as required, to control unwanted weeds and grasses. A green die indicator shall be mixed with herbicide applications except for sidewalks and steps. An herbicide kill zone shall be placed around the trailers 12” from skirting. An herbicide kill zone shall be placed along fence line 6” along each side of the fence. ALL FENCE LINES SHALL BE MAINTAINED. For the Hampton Roads District Complex, no application of chemical spray shall be placed before 5:00 p.m. around occupied buildings, in front of the District Shop Area, unless authorized by the Contract Administrator. 4. LAWN NUISANCE CONTROL: The contract shall have a line item for outdoor Pest Control, which shall be utilized under the miscellaneous line of the purchase order, or by means of a separate purchase order under this Hampton Roads District contract.
