Specifications for Mowing and edging, Areas 1, 2 and 3: a. The Contractor shall utilize equipment that is specifically designed for use on well maintained lawn areas. b. The Contractor shall be prohibited from using any mower that creates rutting, scalps, fails to cut uniformly or causes damage of any kind to the turf. Any damage to plant material, walkways or any other fixed objects (i.e. mailbox) while performing mowing shall be corrected by the Contractor to the satisfaction of the Contract Administrator at no cost to VDOT. c. All mowers shall be equipped with mulching blades during the performance of this contract, unless otherwise directed by Contract Administrator. d. The Contractor shall mow the lawn to a height as specified by the Contract Administrator. Generally, the cutting height should be 2 to 3 inches above ground level. e. The mowing operation shall include the removal of all trash (i.e. tree limbs, paper or plastic waste) from the lawn and adjacent walkways prior to commencing work, trimming around all fixed objects (i.e. trees, posts) using a gasoline powered string trimmer and/or hand clippers, and removing (i.e. sweeping, blowing) all vegetative waste generated by the mowing operation from the adjacent walkways and parking areas. Special attention shall be paid to walkways near doorways. These areas shall be cleared of any clippings/ debris immediately after mowing/ trimming of these areas. f. Turf edgings shall be completed each time mowing is performed and shall be included with the pricing for mowing. g. The Contractor shall perform turf edging along all walkways, curbing, and plant beds by means of a gasoline powered string trimmer and/or gasoline powered blade edger. h. Turf edging shall include the removal (i.e. sweeping, blowing) of vegetative waste and soil from adjacent walkways and hard surface areas generated by this operation. i.
