1. All timber members shall be visually graded southern pine as shown on the drawings. The stress grade for all timber members shall be Combination No. 48. 2. All Structural Glued Laminated Timber members shall be preservative treated in accordance with AITC Standard 109, Standard for Preservative Treatment of Structural Glued Laminated Timber and AWPA Standard C28, Standard for Preservative Treatment of Structural Flued Laminated Timber. Treating solutions shall be in accordance with AASHTO M133 and VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Section236. 3. Materials, manufacture, and quality control for glued laminated members shall be in accordance with American National Standards Institute/American Institute of Timber Construction (ANSI/AITC) Standard A 190.1, Structural Glued Laminated Timber. Adhesives shall meet the requirements of wet-use for wet conditions of service. The appearance of the members shall be Industrial grade. Surfaces of the members shall not be sealed and members shall not be wrapped. Members shall be marked with a Quality Mark, and, in addition, a Certificate of Conformance shall be provided to the Engineer to indicate conformance with ANSI/AITC A 190.I, Structural Glued Laminated Timber. Fabrication of glued laminated members shall be done by an AITC licensed laminator. 4. All members shall be dimensioned, cut and drilled prior to preservative treatment in accordance with Section 418 of the Specifications. 5. All surfaces of all treated members shall be free of excess treatment solution at the time of delivery. 6. All dimensions shown on plans for timber members shall be actual dimensions. 7. All metal hardware shall be galvanized in accordance with Section 233 of the Road and Bridge Specifications. 8. Timber and metal hardware for bridge railing systems shall be as specified in railing standard sheets.
