For the purpose of this contract, Clearing and Grubbing is the cutting of all vegetation, woody-debris, shrubs and up of storm blown / up-rooted trees ONLY within the delineated area at the Bog Site. This item shall consist of the cutting of brush from the areas as indicated on the Bog Site location map in Appendix A and as directed by the Project Inspector. The cutting of up of storm blown / up-rooted trees & debris shall ONLY be performed at the Bog site and disposal placed at the Lenges / Nuckles site. *NOTE for BOG SITE: All trees and brush along Office Drive, at the Bog Site, shall be cut with care to not damage existing 8” HDPE pipe cleanouts. Extreme caution shall be taken to prevent coming in contact with overhead power lines. Tree-trunks cut shall also be further reduced to firewood-size lengths and stacked on the edge of the access road. 2.B PROCEDURE 2.B.i Bush hogs, string trimmers, or hand tools may be used to accomplish the work, as long as the safety of the worker is not compromised. The contractor may propose other methods for review. The Project Inspector shall approve the type of equipment to be used. 2.B.ii Vegetation shall be cut to within three (3)-inches of ground level. Care shall be taken so as not to damage any pipes, water control boxes, fences, etc. within the work areas. Clearing shall be done around all water control boxes, manholes, inlet pipes, and outlet pipes as directed by the Project Inspector. 2.B.iii Disposal of all woody debris shall be removed from the project and properly disposed of, burned or spread at the Lenges / Nuckles Site. Large wood debris should be cut to firewood length and stacked on the perimeter. If chipped, the chips can be blown back on the disposal site slopes within the project limits in a manner that piling does not occur greater than 3-inches and the chips do not enter a treatment cell. 2.B.iv Trees that have the potential to contact energized power lines will be removed in a manner that does not expose workers to contact with such lines. This may include using cables, ropes, or deenergizing the electrical power from the lines. The owner of the power line will be notified prior to work being performed and in the event of any damage to the power line.
