A portion of the existing superstructure is to be removed. This shall include the length of the existing slab, curb and parapet within the span between Piers 1 and 2, and the width from the northern edge of the existing slab to the centerline of the second beam, as dimension on the plans. as well as the first facia beam as defined in the contract plans. The cost of cutting and removing the superstructure, including bearing assemblies and anchor bolts (where necessary) shall be included in the Dismantle and Remove Portion of Existing VA Structure Number 6328 lump sum bid item. All expansion Bearings shall be set in the correct position after the deck slab is poured. The cost of resetting, if necessary, is incidental to the cost of the Prestressed Concrete I-Beam. Reinforcement in bridge deck slabs and slab spans shall be supported by stainless steel bar supports. The bar supports shall be fabricated from stainless steel wire conforming to ASTM A493. The Contractor should treat stainless steel bar supports as a special material that may require several weeks production lead time. Bar supports shall be spaced as recommended by CRSI but not more than 4 feet apart transversely or longitudinally.
