A. The Contractor shall provide full-service compost management, which will include but is not limited to: 1. Collection & Equipment a) Provide appropriate containers and collection equipment necessary for collection of compostable materials. b) Ensure containers are kept clean, safe, in functional condition, and are appropriately labeled for compostable waste. c) Establish and maintain a consistent collection schedule in coordination with designated Virginia Tech personnel. 2. Transportation a) Safely transport all collected compostable materials from campus to an approved composting facility. b) Ensure all transportation activities comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. 3. Composting and Processing a) Accept and process a wide range of food waste and approved compostable materials using environmentally responsible composting methods. Accepted products should include, but are not limited to, BPI certified and NSF tested materials (to include PLA and PHA based products). b) Utilize environmentally responsible composting methods in compliance with regulatory standards 4. Contamination Management a) Monitor loads for contamination and provide timely documentation of any noncompliant loads. 1. A load shall only be deemed contaminated and non-compliant if noncompostable materials constitute more than one-third (~33%) of the visible volume of the container, based on a visual inspection conducted by the Contractor prior to collection b) Document any contamination with timestamped photographic evidence and communicate contamination issues with designated Virginia Tech personnel within 24 hours, as well as provide guidance and support to reduce contamination in compost streams to minimize future occurrences 5. Reporting a) Provide regular reports detailing weights, volumes, contamination incidents, and other performance metrics as requested. 6. Compliance and Permits a) Maintain all necessary licenses, permits, and insurance required to operate and haul compostable materials. 7. Customer Support a) Assign a primary point of contact to coordinate service, respond to issues, and support the University in meeting its composting goals.
