Specifications include, but are not limited to: Goals that Virginia Tech seeks to address via a new Business Intelligence system architecture: - Provide a consistent data model for users and developers to access that: o Provides a standard ODBC/JDBC and SQL interfaces for visualization/reporting tools. o Contains needed functional and technical metadata descriptions. o Provides a common location for business rules to be implemented. o Provides ability to connect disparate data sources outside of the Banner ERP and Oracle Data Warehouse. o Provides capability to incorporate unstructured and BIG data into the model for analytics. o Provides data driven security functionality to control access to sensitive information. - Provide an Ad hoc tool for users to develop their own queries of data, save and share to a common library accessible to other users. - Provide a Pixel Perfect Enterprise reporting tool for operational reports. - Provide a robust scheduling and distribution process for information/reports. - Provide analytical and predictive analytical tools. - Provide Dash boarding capabilities for service delivery. - Provide Mobile access to business intelligence functionality. The business intelligence system is intended to provide a full range of electronic services from business rules and security built into a common data model to providing analytical tools to support institutional effectiveness through evaluation, assessment, and strategic planning for the university.
