A. SCOPE OF WORK: The Contractor shall furnish and deliver one (1) box culvert. The culvert shall be 5' span x 7' height, one (1) line at 30’ as shown in Attachment A. Standard sections shall be six (6’) long, each section with male and female end with zero degree skew. Rubber or plastic plugs shall be included to close lifting holes in top slab after erection of box culvert. No other configuration or extra charges will be allowed. B. SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Precast box culvert sections shall be waterproofed with epoxy-resin compound and aggregate in accordance with Section 416 of the 2020, or latest edition, VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications located at: VDOT_2020_RB_Specs_acc071522.pdf. Surface preparation prior to application of the epoxy-resin compound shall include sandblasting or grinding, followed by cleaning in accordance with Section 416.03 of the Specifications. Contractor shall waterproof entire top surface of each box culvert section and a portion of both side walls extending down a distance of twelve (12") from the top corners of the section. Waterproofing shall terminate six (6”) from bell and spigot end to allow for installation of exterior joint wrap. The bell and spigot shall not be waterproofed. 2. Shop drawings are required for review by VDOT and shall comply with VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications Section 105.10(c) and be signed and sealed by a Professional Engineer, holding a valid license to practice engineering in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Drawings shall be submitted no later than ten (10) business days after award date and prior to fabricating. Shop drawings shall be submitted electronically in PDF format to Scott Earhart (scott.earhart@vdot.virginia.gov) c.c. Gordon Ellison (charles.ellison@vdot.virginia.gov) at the Staunton District Bridge Maintenance Office. Shop drawings will be returned electronically to the Contractor within five (5) business days from date of receipt by VDOT. 3. The box culvert shall be constructed in accordance with ASTM Standard C1577-20, 0 to 2 feet fill, HL-93. Live Load conditions and Section 302 of 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications with following additions and/or exceptions: a. Clear concrete cover over the reinforcing steel: 1.Top Slab-Top Reinforcement 2 1/2" (+3/8", -0") 2.Top Slab-Bottom Reinforcement 2" (+3/8", -0") 3. All other reinforcement 1 1/2" (+3/8", -0")
