Group sessions to juveniles referred to the program include sessions with the parent/guardian and juvenile in the same group for a total of seven (7) sessions specifically addressing alternatives to expressing anger broken down into six (6) two (2) hour increments. In addition, one (1) two (2) hour session will be devoted to a group community service project for the youth. The size of each group shall include 15 juveniles and their parent/guardian. A coed approach to conducting the group sessions is acceptable. Note: parent/guardian are expected to attend three sessions and comply with VJCCCA policies and procedures. The family’s progress in the group is based on attending all sessions as required, actively participating, and complying with rules and procedures. Evidence-based curriculum to be utilized that emphasizes cognitive behavioral approaches to teach alternative means of communicating and problem solving as well as strength-based programming. The program shall encompass current research and best practices. Juveniles and their custodial parents will be referred by the 14th CSU and/or ordered by the HCJDRDC to attend these groups.
