Subject: Sources Sought for Submersible pCO2 sensor and pump Pro-Oceanus Systems brand name or an equal to product
Sources Sought Closing Response Date: July 21, 2025
Contact Point: Kimberly Schneider, krschneider@usgs.gov
Objective: To find sources that are qualified to meet the supplies/services as listed below. Note that the specific requirements are subject to change prior to the release of any solicitation.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center (OTWSC) is seeking potential sources Provide a submersible pCO2 sensor and pump and pump with accessories. Currently the only known source that is compatible with existing equipment is the Pro-Oceanus CO2-Pro CV.
Specifications/Salient Characteristics: We are seeking sources for Pro-Oceanus Systems brand name or an equal to product.
The following salient characteristics are required:
1. Specifications: Item 1: 2x PCO2 sensors
1. Must measure the partial pressure of CO2 gas dissolved in seawater using infrared detection.
2. The sensor shall be factory calibrated using WMO traceable standards.
3. Must have an automatic zero compensation feature.
4. Must have a range of 0-2,000 parts per million.
5. Must have an accuracy of ±0.5%.
6. Must have a resolution of 0.01 ppm.
7. Must not exceed 38 cm in length and 10 cm in diameter.
8. Must have a depth rating of at least 600 meters.
9. Must be able to operate at temperatures ranging from 0ºC to 40ºC.
10. Must be able to connect to water pump.
11. Must sample every second.
12. The sensor shall provide data via RS-232 and have the capability to integrate with a user provided datalogger.
13. Must not require input voltage exceeding 18 VDC.
14. Must include a water-pumped interface head.
15.
2. Specifications: Item 2: 2x Pump with antifouling cap
1. Must be a centrifugal pump.
2. Pump must have a depth rating of 600 meters.
3. Must provide constant flow to sensors at 2000 RPMs.
4. Must include a 1-meter sensor to pump cable.
5. Must not require input voltage exceeding 18 VDC.
6. Must have a plastic housing and weigh no more than 0.5kg in air/0.1kg in water.
7. Must include an antifouling cap that can be attached to pump to prevent debris from being pumped into sensors.
8. Must have a wet-pluggable MCBH Connector.
9.
3. Accuracy and Precision:
1. methods used for carbonate system data collection must provide data at high accuracy and precision to detect small changes over decadal timescales.
2. pCO2 at an accuracy of ±0.5% and a resolution of 0.01 ppm while requiring minimal regular maintenance and no use of liquid chemical reagents, resulting in data of appropriate quality to meet project objectives.
3. a tubular interface and enhanced biofouling resistance to ensure stability for long-term field deployments and is factory calibrated using WMO traceable standard gases to improve accuracy.
4. Data Comparability:
1. ProOceanus CO2-Pro CV data comparability and consistency is essential that the measurement instruments, methods, and accuracy for pCO2 data remain the same.
5. Compatibility:
1. Integrates effectively with the existing equipment being installed at the station and with established USGS telemetry procedures. Its dimensions and deployment specifications are suitable for the enclosure where the sensors will be deployed.
2. Sensor must be compatible with a Campbell CR1000x Datalogger and allow physical integration with a Seabird SeapHOx to allow external pump use.
3. The sensor must be able to deploy horizontally and fit in the enclosure with other sensors, thus diameter should be no greater than 5 inches.
Responses: All interested parties should notify this office via e-mail within the posted date. Responses shall include:
(I) To what extent each of the specifications can be met.
(II) Include your type of business (i.e. commercial, academia), whether your organization is classified as a large or small business. If a small business, you must also list any small disadvantaged status you hold [HUBZone, 8(a), Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Women Owned Small Business (WOSB), Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB), etc.].
(III) Experience/ performance through the description of completed projects.
