The City of Newport News (“City”) shall procure one (1) large-format industrial 3D printer comparable to the Modix BIG-180X (Generation 4) for use by the Waterworks Department. The printer shall support in-house fabrication, prototyping, and production of durable components. Brand-name or City-approved equivalent products shall be considered. The 3D printer shall be new, unused, and in current production. The printer shall be industrial-grade and suitable for municipal operational use. The printer shall be delivered complete and ready for use, including all standard components, firmware, and required accessories. All specifications listed herein shall be considered minimum requirements. 3. Technical Specifications 3.1 Build Volume The printer shall have a minimum build volume (single print head) of: X: 1,800 mm Y: 600 mm Z: 660 mm 3.2 Construction and Enclosure The printer shall be constructed using a rigid aluminum frame (T-slot or equivalent). The printer shall include a fully enclosed build chamber. The enclosure shall be suitable for extended, unattended operation. 3.3 Motion System The printer shall utilize a precision linear rail motion system. The Z-axis shall be driven by ball screws or equivalent. The printer shall support a minimum layer resolution of 50 microns (0.05 mm) or finer. 3.4 Print Head and Extrusion The printer shall include a single print head as standard. The printer shall support dual independent extrusion (IDEX) as a standard feature or as a manufacturer-supported option. The printer shall be compatible with multiple nozzle sizes, including 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, and 0.8 mm minimum. The extrusion system shall support high-flow extrusion suitable for large-format printing.
