1) Assessment: Consulting firm shall assess various trees located on the public right-of-way for the area within the City boundary shown in Exhibit A and public property listed in Exhibit B. At a minimum, the information collected for each tree shall include: a) Address/Location - Identify the location of each tree, planting site, and stump by the following attributes. i) Location Type (1) City Property (2) Park (3) Right of Way ii) Address. House address. iii) GPS coordinates in the desired format. b) Park Name – For trees located in City designated parks, the name of the park is recorded. c) Tree Name - Trees are identified by genus and species using both botanical and common names, and by cultivars where appropriate. d) Tree Size i) Diameter is measured to the nearest inch in 1-inch size classes at 4½ feet above the ground, or diameter at breast height (DBH). e) Plant Status i) Young; DBH < 6 inches ii) Mature; DPH > 6 inches iii) Stump - This category indicates a stump that should be removed f) Condition - A general note on the health of the tree. Signs of stress, poor structure, mechanical damage, soil and root problems, disease, and pests are all considerations in the assessment of tree condition. i) Good. A good tree shows no major problems. ii) Fair. A fair tree has minor problems that may be corrected with time or corrective action. iii) Poor. A poor tree has several major health or structural issues. iv) Critical. A tree that may have a sign of life, but is unlikely to recover. v) Dead. A dead tree shows no sign of life. g) Primary Maintenance - The following maintenance needs will be assigned: i) Remove. Trees designated for removal have defects that cannot be practically or costeffectively treated. Most trees in this category have a large percentage of dead crown. ii) Prune. This is the removal of one or more limbs, needed to reduce risk, provide clearance, and restore the tree. iii) Train. Pruning young or medium aged trees to improve tree and branch architecture. iv) Discretionary. The client may opt to prune to manage for tree health or aesthetic appearance. h) Risk Rating - Evaluate risk and assign a risk rating based on an assessment of the failure mode (i.e., brand, whole tree, codominant stem) with the greatest risk. The specified period for the risk assessment is one year. The risk component of this assessment and evaluation is to maintain compliance with the most recent standards and practices in the arboricultural industry.
