2.4.Training Objectives 2.4.1.Upon completion of this course, participants shall be able to: 2.4.1.1. Demonstrate safe and effective use of the HazCat® System for field identification of unknown hazardous materials. 2.4.1.2. Conduct and interpret results from the three (3) Gateway Tests: 2.4.1.3. Oxidizer/Acid Test 2.4.1.4. Water Solubility Test 2.4.1.5. Thermal Analysis 2.4.1.6. Apply knowledge of terms, definitions, and chemical behavior to real-world scenarios. 2.4.1.7. Document identification results in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 2.4.1.8. Make informed decisions regarding response and protective actions during hazmat incidents. 2.5. Course Content Requirements 2.5.1.The course shall include, at a minimum: 2.5.1.1. Introduction to HazCat® Tools – overview of field identification kits, materials, and procedures. 2.5.1.2. Terminology & Definitions – instruction on new chemical and hazard-related terms encountered during testing. 2.5.1.3. Testing Methodologies – instructor demonstration of the three Gateway tests, followed by student practice. 2.5.1.4. Practical Exercises – hands-on testing of simulated unknowns under instructor supervision. 2.5.1.5. Decision-Making & Documentation – exercises in interpreting results, selecting response actions, and documenting findings. 2.5.1.6. Theory Integration – understanding chemical principles behind tests to reinforce learning and decision-making.
