Specifications include, but are not limited to: habitat improvement by a one-way chaining. The work includes one-way chaining totaling 3,015 acres. A combination of the chaining work is in burned sagebrush, pinyon and juniper areas. This work will be accomplished using Two (2) steel tracked tractors with drawbars capable of pulling an approximately 240-foot Ely anchor chain weighing approximately 23,000 lbs. Contractor will furnish tractors and operators, and all supporting equipment, supplies, fuels, transportation, and incidentals for the entire project. See attached maps for the treatment areas. ; Chaining shall be performed in an organized systematic manner as determined in the pre-work conference. ; Tractors must be capable of pulling the chains at a speed sufficient to roll the chain and prevent litter piling. Chain shall not be pulled at a speed in excess of 4 mph. The spacing between tractors will be sufficiently narrow to result in a maximum lateral spacing from swivel to swivel of one half the length of the Ely chain that is being used. As an example, pulling a 240’ Ely chain would be limited to the maximum spacing of 120’ from swivel to swivel so that the chain will sufficiently turn the soil to plant the seed. ; The project involves chaining multiple polygons totaling approximately 3,015 acres of recently burned mixed PJ/sagebrush areas. Each site will be chained in one direction.
