The Town of Alta (“the Town”) operates a culinary water system that serves roughly 90 commercial and residential connections in Alta, Utah. The system consists of a water source deep inside an old mine tunnel, where water is pumped into an antimony treatment facility and then into two storage tanks in separate locations. About 2.5 miles of 6”, 8”, and 10” transmission pipelines exist in the system, along with three pressure reducing valves and 25 hydrants. Much of the Town’s water system is on land owned and managed by the USDA Forest Service (USFS) under special use authorization from USFS. In 2014 the Town developed a water system capital improvements plan with the goal of creating system redundancy and improving fire flows. As of September 2024, the Town initiated development of a water system master plan that identified 4 capital improvement projects to be carried out over the next 5 – 10 years, with the project described in this RFP taking priority. Project Goals • To install approximately 650 feet of 8” diameter pipe in the lower Alta zone. • To increase fire flow capacity and provide additional distribution capacity and redundancy.
