Specifications include, but are not limited to: The First District Juvenile Court receives delinquency referrals on youth typically between the ages of 12-18 regarding violations of law, including infractions and status offenses. It is not uncommon for this population to pose unique issues associated with developmental delay, sexual and physical abuse, interrupted maturation, substance abuse, impaired intellectual capacity, attachment and relationship dysfunction and substantive mental health diagnoses. Youth may be likely to exhibit moderate to high risk behaviors and may have multiple delinquency matters pending before the Court. In these cases, the judge will often desire that a comprehensive assessment be completed prior to entering a final disposition and will therefore order an appropriate assessment based upon the needs of the youth. The youth generally reside in the physical custody of their parent(s)/guardian(s), however, some youth may be held in the detention center pending the completion of the assessment. This service will be accessed by the First District Juvenile Court and probation department for youth in need of more thorough assessment than the Pre-Screen Risk Assessment (PSRA) or Protective and Risk Assessment (PRA) tools that are already used by probation officers. The purpose of the assessment will be to determine the appropriate level of placement and/or treatment for the youth. The assessment may be ordered by the court and/or referred by the probation officer.
