Specifications include, but are not limited to: UDOT has in its fleet, (9) nine cubic yard dump bodies, (12') twelve-foot snowplows, (8’ to 12’) wing Plows, and (7.5) seven and half yard material spreaders that are used in extreme weather conditions that compromise the metal and paint. These extreme situations can expose the metals to various chemicals, which could cause the equipment to malfunction, or the metal to rust and corrode. Corrosion of the metal and paint will require frequent repair by maintenance professionals. For preventative maintenance and repair purposes, UDOT requires that these items be sand blasted to remove all of the old paint and corrosion to expose the bare metal of the item. During the sandblasting process, corroded steel, damaged, and or worn out parts may be exposed and will need to be removed and or repaired.
