Specifications include, but are not limited to: The contractor will provide the following services: Spring Clean-up, to be completed by April 15th: 1. Soil preparation and cultivation in annual flower beds. 2. Replacement of grass, shrubs and flowers that have been damaged or killed by pests, winterkill, snowplows, de-icier chemicals, etc. 3. Pruning multi-stemmed shrubs. a. Multi-stemmed shrubs such as Dogwood, cistena plum, lilac and western sand cherry shall be rejuvenate pruning removing oldest stems to the ground, reducing height and growth to nearest crossing branch or down to the ground. (Indiscriminate hedge trimming will not be allowed on these types of shrubs.) b. All shrubs will need to appear tidy, with all dead and diseased limbs removed, and pruned back so they aren’t encroaching on pathways, and there is clear definition between dissimilar plants. 4. Aeration 5. Removal of Grass and weeds from Tree-wells, redefine all trees and shrubs beds in lawn areas. 6. Application of Small Chunk Pine and Fir Bark of 1” depth to all tree wells and flower beds. (Requires submittal and approval by SLCC) 7. Clean/sweep all parking lots, curbs and gutters. Weekly/Monthly Maintenance: 1. Mow, trim, edge, and blow all lawn areas every week 28 times total, April through September; every other week in October. a. Trim all edges and around all fixtures. b. Edging (with metal blade) along all sidewalks and curbs. c. Remove all debris from mowing, trimming and edging, blowing. Also, remove any other foreign materials on lawns, sidewalks, curbs, beds, tree wells, and in shrubs or trees, including litter. 2. Weed eaters may not be used in areas where they may damage trees or shrubs. 3. Cultivate and weed flowerbeds, tree wells and shrubbery. a. All Weed control for lawns, sidewalk cracks, parking lot, etc., including a pre-emergent herbicide or weed suppression herbicides must be pre-approved by the College’s Facilities Department. 4. Apply fertilizer to all lawn area a minimum of four times during the season using manufacturers’ recommendations and remaining between .75 to 1.25 lb of Nitrogen per 1000 square feet per application. 5. Hedge trimming, and shaping of shrubs such as euonymus, privet, box woods, yews, barberry, and cotoneaster. a. All shrubs will need to appear tidy, with all dead and diseased limbs removed, and pruned back so they aren’t encroaching on pathways, and there is clear definition between dissimilar plants. b. shrubs to be hedge trimmed within the first 2 weeks of June, the last 2 weeks of August, and the last 2 weeks of September. 6. Weekly sprinkler checks, 2-minute test cycle of every zone on site (4 controllers, 87 zones) evaluating and repairing the following: a. Broken heads and/or swing joints. b. Rotor heads no longer rotating. c. Clogged nozzles d. Tilted heads that are more than 10 degrees out from prevailing grade. e. Bad solenoids f. Poorly aligned spray patterns g. Nozzle size consistent with precipitation rate for zone. h. Weeping Valves (Contact SLCC prior to repair) Fall Clean-up: 1. Inspect grounds and remove any debris. 2. Aeration. 3. Remove all fallen leaves. Once between November 7th and 15th, and again the last week of November. In the event that there is snow cover the final week of November, the contractor shall be responsible to remove any remaining leaves at the next available opportunity, no later than the second week of December. 4. Flower bed cleanup (remove annuals, cutback perennials). 5. Contact SLCC representative for final walk-thru inspection after completion.
