Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is in need of 3 strand barbed wire barb arm extensions to be added to 6.7 miles (35,400 ft.) of fence perimeter to prevent predators from climbing over fence. The project is relatively urgent to prevent bighorn mortalities, however, the Division is mindful of scheduling and weather constraints. The location is 40.33136, -110.71683 near Tabiona, UT. Background; In July 2022, bighorn sheep were released into a 1000 acre facility with an 8 ft. tall drill pipe fence in order to establish a disease-free nursery herd. Cougars and other predators pose a serious risk to the success of this project. Consequently, the fence is in need of improvements to prevent predators from entering the facility. Scope of Work; Phase 1: Approximately 1800 barbed arms will be needed (one on each existing fence post which are spaced ~20 ft apart). Majority of existing drill pipe posts are 2 7/8” outside diameter. Some (<10%) are the belled end of the pipe and measure 3 5/8” O.D. (see photos). Barbed arms need to be at least 15 inches long and able to accommodate 3 strands of barbed wire. Phase 2: Barbed wire will be affixed on barbed arms Approximately half of perimeter is accessible by truck, most is accessible by UTV. Terrain varies from flat to very steep. Requirements; Project should begin in winter 2023 as weather permits or spring 2023 Barbed arms will be placed by end of April 2023 Project will be completed by the end of June 2023
