Sole Source Justification: This 3D printer is needed to print microscale objects in a variety of subdisciplines within the UVU mechanical engineering program. This specific system is unique in that it allows users to print 3D objects with 2 µm x-y optical resolution and with layer heights ranging from 2 µm to 20 µm to precisely print objects with complex features as small as 10 µm. Additionally, it features print speeds and automated capabilities that surpass the speed and usability of other 3D printing systems. It will allow users to print objects in the range of sizes that the department needs to print at this resolution in a matter of hours without the need for additional specialized equipment and expertise. Further, this equipment can make use of a variety of 3rd-party 405-nm resins to allow users to print objects in various engineering materials rather than being tied to resins from one company.
