Specifications include, but are not limited to: TIRES Tires furnished shall be of sizes and types specified in Table 1, or their approved equivalent. All tires shall be of high quality as to the relevant sizes and types of tires, as defined by Contractor specifications and shall initially be new original all season tires, new original mud & snow tires, or retread mud & snow tires. Front tires shall be original new tread to comply with Federal standards. Tires must be matched across each axle in size and type, all tires must be within 8/32 from side to side of the axle and 4/32nd on each side of a dual wheel following industry standards. Commuter/Express Buses: The Authority has 38 regularly assigned commuter/express buses that operate on highways with over 70 mph speed limits. These tires shall be a 315/80R x 22.5, load range "L", with all season tread. These tires shall be serviced the same as all other tires. Canyon Service Buses: The Authority operates Canyon Service to ski resort areas during the winter months (approximately November 15th to April 15th) using 48 buses. During that time, these buses need to be equipped with radial snow tires (described in Table 1, on all wheel positions. At the end of the ski season, the good snow tires may need to be removed while many well used snow tires will be run-out during the summer months. The Canyon Service buses are currently using new 305/85R x 22.5 “J” rated, mud & snow in all positions New non-retread tires on steer axle and, “J” rated, mud & snow retread or new tires are used on the rear axles of these buses. When brand new buses are procured, they arrive with all new 305/85R x 22.5 mud and snow tires. SUPPLY Branded Tires: Contractor shall furnish a sufficient number of tires to keep all of the Authority’s bus fleet fully equipped and a reserve supply that is sufficient to maintain a tire inventory at each of the Authority’s five (5) facilities that will ensure continuity of service. Each load of tires shall be marked with a unique brand number upon or prior to arrival. Wherever a casing is retread, this number will be changed to reflect a new unique brand number. Rims shall be furnished by and shall remain the property of the Authority which shall ensure that all rims are of sufficient strength, and in sizes and types and spacing, to permit inflation necessary for required load carrying capacity and to conform to the approved standards of the Tire & Rim Association of America, Inc. The Authority’s entire fleet is currently operating with a combination of aluminum and steel tire rims (wheels) at this time. Contractor shall schedule and arrange for delivery of replacement tires as needed. The Authority’s current tire contractor is Michelin North America, Inc. The lease contract with Michelin has been extended through November 30, 2023. If Michelin is not the successful Proposer, the Authority shall either buy out the remaining tread as per the 32nd Inch costing previously agreed upon, or exercise its 36-month run-out option for Michelin tires as provided for under FTC Order issued June 29, 1972, Docket Number C-1957, as modified, to eliminate service by Michelin. The Authority shall have the right at any time during the term of the contract to test and use tires other than those furnished by Contractor on up to 15% of its bus fleet. Such tires shall not be subject to any of the terms or provisions of the contract, except for service. Due to new technology buses having new additional requirements for tire and load capacity new tire size and capacities may be required to be added to this contract. The Agency shall provide 180 days’ notice prior to the new vehicle going online at bus OEM.
