Specifications include, but are not limited to: A Contractor that will haul used creosoted utility poles to re-purpose and/or beneficially recycle, or dispose as a secondary alternative into a landfill. The Contractor will be required to recycle/repurpose (divert) at least 50% of the weight of the poles that is hauled by the Contractor, and a performance incentive (see Article 4.2.5 below) will be awarded for performance above the 50% standard. Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that are no longer useful to the generator and converting into raw materials used in the production of new products. Re-purposing is the process by which an object is put to use for something that is different than the one it was originally intended for. Landfill is the location at which the final placement of waste occurs in or on designated land according to sanitary, environmental protection and other safety requirements. Diversion is the combination of recycling and repurposing in order to keep materials from being disposed of in landfills.
