Specifications include, but are not limited to: ITEM #1 & 2: BREAST & FLAT BADGE, SILVER & GOLD (NUMBERED & SCROLL OR RETIRED) A. DESIGN: The badge shall consist of a five (5) pointed star set against a field of blue flowed enamel, with two (2) circular ropes in the blue flowed enamel field. This star shall have a large printed, "raised D" in the center, and the two (2) horizontal points of the star shall be capped with a circle. The star must have a "raised or three-dimensional" appearance. The centerline dividing each point of the star in half must have a "raised" feel and appearance. This line must be a straight line, crisp and without any curves or beveled out areas. Since the star is the focal point of the badge, there must not be any holes, scrapes, gouges, or blemishes on the star. Above the star, at the top of the point, the word "POLICE" is printed on the concave arc. The "POLICE" lettering is 18 pt. Extended Palatino. Below the star, between its two (2) lower points, the officer's badge number shall be stamped permanently on the badge. These numbers are 20 pt. Roman. The badges with a "scroll fill" design shall be identical to the "standard" breast badge except the two (2) scroll designs shall replace the officer badge number. The flat badges shall be identical to the breast badges with an exception (see section F – Construction). Just below the space for the officer's badge number or scroll design, at the base of the badge, shall be printed with the officer's rank on a convex arc. (Figure 1 reflects the rank of “POLICE OFFICER”) This rank designation is 14 pt. Block. Just below the left horizontal point of the star shall be printed the word "DALLAS" on a curved five sixteenth (5/16) inch border in descending fashion. The "DALLAS" lettering is 14 pt. Extended Block. Just below the right horizontal point of the star shall be printed the word "TEXAS" on a curved five sixteenth (5/16) inch border in ascending fashion. The "TEXAS" lettering is 14 pt. Extended Block. Behind the star, in the recessed areas created by the star, ropes and border of the design, there are fifteen (15) separate recessed areas. These areas are filled with blue flowed enamel. The blue flowed enamel must not "pool" in one place more than the other. The overall blue flow must be consistently equal and smooth. At the base and top of the badge shall be a decorative addition of posting, graduating from large in the center, to smallest at the outside extremities. The ropes must inter-twine and braid as an actual rope appears. The rope must not look like a series of dashes. All lettering and numerals, except the "D" in the center of the star, shall be recessed and filled with black enamel. The edges of the badge must be sanded, polished, and rounded off. The edges shall not have any rough edges or burrs that "catch" to the feel.
