Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Laredo Independent School District Physician Consultant should be a licensed physician to practice medicine in the State of Texas. The physician contracts with the school district on a yearly basis to give guidance and direction to Health Services Program at the local level. The school physician consultant will: Act as a liaison between the school and other physicians, health agencies, and the general public in regard to circumstances involving the school and the public health. Monitor and consult with the District’s Health Services Department, the School Board, and administrators Offer medical advice and consultation in regard to the medical needs affecting the safety and welfare of the students. Assist the administration in determining the appropriateness of special accommodations for children with bona fide medical needs, such as one-on-one monitors, door-to-door transportation, home instruction, chronic school absenteeism, school refusal, or behavioral and mental health concerns that pose a threat to a student or school community, etc. Provide nursing staff with a Health Practice and Procedures Manual, with standing orders which are updated and signed annually.
