Bell County is soliciting proposals from highly qualified consultants for the purpose of conducting comprehensive staffing and shift efficiencies study for all Bell County Sheriff’s Office Jail Operations. Bell County Jail Operations manages two facilities with a combined capacity of approximately 1000-1100 inmates daily, staffed by roughly 360 jailers, supervisors, and support personnel. Central Jail houses approximately 350 inmates, while the Loop Jail complex accommodates 720-750, including intake and minimum-security populations. To address overflow, Bell County contracts with neighboring counties (Milam, Young, and Burnet) to house approximately 100-150 inmates daily. Transportation to and from these facilities is managed by the Sheriff's Office Courts and Transportation division (37 deputies, including 2 Sergeants), occasionally supplemented by armed jailers. With the addition of the Tower extension at the Loop Jail complex, there is a potential to lease beds to local, state, and federal partners.
