Specifications include, but are not limited to: Ballistic Shields for the Harris County Sheriff's Office, (For one (1) year beginning approximately September 1, 2023). 1. Ballistic shield viewport shall be built to work as a stand-alone NIJ 0108.01 Level III & Special Threats shield. The shield will be of a stand-alone configuration and not require additional armor to meet the specified Level III threat level. 2. The ballistic shield shall stop the following rounds: a. 5.56 x 45-mm, 55-grain M193 Ball b. 7.62 x 39-mm, 123-grain PS Ball c. 7.62 x 51-mm, 149-grain M80 FMJ d. 7.62 x 54R-mm, 148-grain LPS 3. Ballistic shield weight a. The shield viewport and without light will weigh 22.5 pounds. 4. Ballast shield dimension b. The shield with viewport and without light shall measure 18 inches wide by 32 inches tall. 5. Ballistic shield viewport dimensions The shield’s viewport shall have a wide field of view. The viewport shall be of a triangle shape that enhances the field of view when compared to a standard rectangular viewport that enhances the lower peripheral vision. a. The shield’s viewport shall measure 9.75 inches wide by 3.75 inches tall. 6. Ballistic plate thickness and material The shield ballistic material shall be 100% composite ballistic construction. c. The shield’s ballistic plate thickness shall measure .56 inches. 7. Ballistic cover and color The shield shall be covered with a Ranger Green coating. a. The shield shall be covered with a Black Polyurea coating on its impact side. 8. Ballistic handle shall be: The shield shall have a fixed straight carbon bar handle allowing for either left handed or right handed usage. The shield shall have a forearm pad affixed to the back of the shield via hook and look. The shield shall have a heavy duty adjustable forearm strap. 9. Ballistic edge protection a. The shield shall have a plastic guard around the edge of the shield to protect it from wear.
