Specifications include, but are not limited to: The proposed FCS Vivarium Research Facility will house rodents and conduct research in the areas of Cancer, Psychology, and Neuroscience. The proposed layout and MEP enhancements should take into consideration an existing laboratory conversion to ensure that the new FCS Vivarium Research Facility will meet AAALAC certification requirements and will meet all the standards of the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals,” eighth edition. In order to maintain the facility, and prohibit the introduction of outside pathogens into the sterile environment, several design and operational considerations will need to be assessed and considered. These considerations include circulation and mitigating processes between the sterile and non-sterile environments, such as airlocks, special entries, wet showers, staff-dedicated areas for PPE and PPE disposal, sterilization and decontamination of equipment, and recommendations for strict operational procedures.
