To provide vegetation cutting and removal services at various locations of Austin Water Wildland Conservation Division properties, Parks and Recreation Department land, and other City properties. The intent of the work is to mitigate the negative effects of potential wildfire on the City of Austin Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, Water Quality Protection Lands, and parkland in Travis, Hays, and Williamson Counties. Activities involve vegetation cutting, hauling, removal, and disposal following the prescribed treatment specifications. The purpose of shaded fuel breaks is to reduce wildfire intensity and ember production by: • Removing dead woody material, • Removing understory woody plants, • Raising the canopy base height, • Reducing the canopy bulk density, • Maintaining existing canopy cover, and • Encouraging continued canopy closure.
