Texas Tech University System and Texas Tech University have proposed the design and construction of the TTU Design Village, a new facility to be located on the existing R03 parking lot directly south of the University Library, at the intersection of 18th Street and Boston Avenue. The Project, as currently being programmed, is anticipated to encompass approximately 210,000 GSF and will include: - Faculty and staff offices - Studios and classrooms - Computer labs - Fabrication spaces such as print labs, research labs, and woodshops - Collaborative and multipurpose areas for study, exhibition, and events - Student Success Center - Landscaped exterior courtyards The Design Village will foster interdisciplinary collaboration among design and design-adjacent programs, supporting flexible academic pathways, preparing workforce-ready students, and engaging faculty and students in dynamic, cross-disciplinary research. Participating academic units span eight colleges and include: - Huckabee College of Architecture - School of Art, College of Visual and Performing Arts - Department of Design, College of Health and Human Sciences - Department of Landscape Architecture, Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources - Department of Civil, Environmental & Construction Engineering, Whitacre College of Engineering - College of Media & Communication - Center for Real Estate, Rawls College of Business - Department of Psychological Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences The building will connect to existing utility infrastructure within the campus tunnel system and tie into the Central Heating and Cooling Plant for steam, condensate return, chilled water, and chilled water return. Parking is not included in the project scope; however, a vehicular service drive will be required to maintain access to the adjacent University Library and Student Union Building loading docks.
