The City operates a residential and commercial refuse collection and disposal service as a municipal enterprise. The City’s Solid Waste Department has in place a curbside single stream recycling program, which allows both residential and commercial customers to recycle mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, metals, glass containers, plastics #1, #2 natural, #2 pigment, #3-7 aluminum and steel. On average, the City generates 877.24 tons of single stream recyclable material each year. Items allowed in the single stream recycling carts are: Paper Products • Office Paper • Newspaper • Junk Mail • Small Cardboard Boxes • Paper Towel and Toilet Paper Tubes; Plastic Bottles • Water Bottles • Soda Bottles • Milk Bottles • Bottles with Recycling Logo # 1-5, and #7; Cans • Soda • Bear • Soup • Vegetable; Recyclable material is picked up from City customers twice a week and brought to the City Transfer Station, located at 590 I-45 North, Huntsville, Texas 77320. Recyclable material is loaded onto a transfer truck and trailer and hauled to the selected respondent’s MRF in two loads – one load is transported on Thursday and one load on Friday of each week. Each load will have an average of 8.44 tons of single stream recyclables. This amount is estimated and the City makes no guarantee as to the volume of recyclable materials in each load. The trailer discharges the recyclable materials via a walking floor.
