This specification describes a tabletop asphalt content tester furnace with a measurement system and controller that constantly monitors weight loss during burn-off to determine asphalt content by ignition. In addition, the furnace provides an aggregate sample for gradation analysis when burn-off is complete. The system consists of furnace with digital control and shall meet or exceed the following: EXAMPLES: Troxler Model #4740 ICO NCAT Ignition Oven for Asphalt Content or in accordance with paragraph 2.01, Specification, of the TxDOT Terms and Conditions. 2. FUNCTIONAL AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS: Integrally designed furnace shall consist of main chamber and internal balance with control system. Equipment shall have latest version of built-in operating software for functions including, but not limited to: Heating, door safety lock, and internal balance. The vendor shall provide any software upgrades available from manufacturer. 2.1. MAIN CHAMBER: Must: 2.1.1. Have minimum inside dimensions 13 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 19 inches deep. 2.1.2. Accommodate sample sizes up to 5 pounds. 2.1.3. Operate to minimum temperature of 375°C (707°F). 2.1.4. Produce low emissions, including reduction of exhaust particulates and volatiles, by either an infrared or after burner and filtration system. 2.1.5. Be equipped with door safety lock on chamber door to prevent opening during test operation. 2.1.6. Have a sample basket specifically designed to fit furnace inside dimensions. 2.1.7. Provide both a standard sample basket carrier and safety cage to shield sample while cooling. 2.1.8. Meet the requirements of TxDOT test procedure Tex-236-F, Determining Asphalt Content from Asphalt Paving Mixtures by the Ignition Method. 2.1.9. Meet current ASTM D6307 and current AASHTO T308 ignition method standards.
