The assessment will provide recommendations for operational changes and effective oversight of our radiation/laser, nuclear medicine safety program and contracted services being provided to Parkland Health. The assessment will identify the type of changes needed for the radiation/laser, nuclear medicine safety program at Parkland Health consisting of both the physical and operational plants. The assessment will also identify and make recommendations so Parkland Health can effectively exercise oversight of service delivery of associated contracted services for radiation/laser, nuclear medicine safety, which will lead to industry best practices that will result in an effective long term business strategy. The assessment will evaluate the following: Parkland’s compliance related to all radiation/laser, nuclear medicine safety processes throughout Parkland Health to ensure compliance with accrediting bodies, local, state, and federal regulations i.e., The Joint Commission (TJC), American College of Radiology (ACR), Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), concerning radiation exposure and handling of radioactive materials. Review and analyze radiation exposure records throughout Parkland Health, including Nuclear Medicine, Radiology Service, Laser Safety, and ancillary services which have radiation workers and provide appropriate recommendation to ensure effective exposure monitoring with the goal of keeping exposure to as low as reasonably achieve-able (ALARA). Evaluate the radiation safety inspections on all imaging equipment ensuring that Parkland’s processes are effective.
