Case Management and Prosecution • Prosecute all Class C misdemeanor cases, including traffic violations, city ordinance violations, and other applicable offenses. • Review citations, complaints, and charging instruments for legal sufficiency. • Prepare cases for trial, including discovery, pretrial motions, and plea negotiations. • Represent the City in jury trials, bench trials, and other court proceedings. Compliance and Records • Ensure all prosecutions comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws. • Maintain accurate and thorough records of all cases handled. • Respond to public information requests and subpoenas related to Municipal Court cases. Other Duties as Assigned • Attend meetings or training sessions as required by the City. • Provide updates and reports on prosecution activities to the City Attorney, City Manager, or other designated officials. Estimated Court Time and Activity • Handle approximately 20–30 hours of pre-trial matters and related activities per month. • Manage an average of 800–900 cases set for court each month. • Attend and prosecute cases during 25 scheduled monthly court dockets spread across 12–14 calendar days. • Review and process 5–10 case submissions from local law enforcement agencies each month. • Address an average of 1,500 cases filed with the Municipal Court monthly. Expectations and Deliverables • Timely review and preparation of cases for court hearings. • Responsive and professional interaction with City officials, court personnel, law enforcement, and the public. • Comprehensive and accurate documentation for all cases handled. • Attendance at all required court sessions and related meetings. Minimum Qualifications • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and good standing with the State Bar of Texas. • Minimum of five (5) years of significant, progressively responsible experience as a municipal court prosecutor, assistant district attorney, or county attorney. • Strong knowledge of Texas criminal statutes, municipal ordinances, and court procedures. • Excellent communication, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills.
