Specifications include, but are not limited to: The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Microbiology Department is soliciting bids from vendors to provide a laboratory automation solution for specimen processing and culture examination, workup, and reporting. MD Anderson’s microbiology lab currently utilizes manual and semi-automated mechanisms for specimen processing and manual mechanisms for culture examination, workup, and reporting. The conversion to a fully integrated automation process is prompted by the difficulty in efficiently inoculating and incubating specimens with the current manual/semi-automated processes. Additionally, automating the culture reading process will allow cultures to be examined more efficiently without the need to remove and replace cultures into incubators several times over the life of the culture.
