Specifications include, but are not limited to: McLennan County is requesting total price proposals for Pauper Burial/Cremation services. Method of Disposition: The method of disposition will be by cremation with the following exceptions: Unclaimed bodies for which no person entitled to control disposition has been located; Unidentified bodies; Infants; Morbidly obese bodies unable to cremate; Where the County is notified that a body is needed for evidentiary or other reasons related to criminal or civil litigation; In any instance the McLennan County Health Services Director is concerned that efforts to contact persons entitled to control the disposition of the body may not have been sufficient or that a failure to take responsibility for the body is otherwise excused such as due to active military service by the person entitled to control the disposition of the body; Veterans: The person entitled to control the disposition of the body of a Veteran can request burial if the body is to be buried in a Veterans cemetery and the burial is eligible for reimbursement from the VA. This RFP does not allow for embalming, visitation or viewing of the deceased. Viewing optional at the discretion of the contracted funeral home. Burial or cremation must take place within 72 hours after approval by Health Services unless there are extenuating circumstances. Internment: All County burials shall be at County owned Restland Cemetery located between South 9th and 12th Streets unless otherwise authorized. The only exception to this policy is the burial of veterans. Veterans are to be buried at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen unless otherwise indicated.
