Specifications include, but are not limited to: As drug overdoses have accelerated over the years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has offered funding opportunities to educate, train, and distribute Naloxone through the OD2A grant. With this funding, HCPH Substance Use Prevention (SUP) Program will be able to saturate high risk areas, schools, shelters, etc. with Naloxone (Narcan), to ensure a decrease in drug overdoses within our jurisdiction. Objectives • Help reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes • Reduce fatal overdoses • Bring Naloxone awareness and educate those associated with the target population • Demonstrate how to use Naloxone (Narcan Nasal Spray) Target Population Based on the surveillance data collected in the past few years, below are the target populations that are highrisk of opioid overdose. • Youth, between ages of 14-25 • Adults 64 and younger • Unsheltered, uninsured & underserved Target Locations The target locations are the most high-risk areas and/or serve high-risk individuals based on the overdose rate in Harris County. We will distribute to Harris County School Districts with an estimate of ten (10) high schools and ten (10) junior high schools per district, Universities, Houston Fire Department, Houston Police Department, Homeless Shelters, nightlife communities, and Harm Reduction Programs.
