The City of Denton is considering commissioning artists to design and execute at minimum two large-scale 3D ground paintings (10’ x 20’) that create immersive optical illusions and interactive experiences for the public. Whether your style is hyper-realistic, surreal, or conceptual, we want to see how you can turn a flat surface into a mind-bending work of art with a Halloween flair. The commissioned artworks will become property of the City of Denton and entered into the Public Art Inventory. This art project will take place during the "31 Days of Denton Halloween" festival in downtown Denton. In 2024, the first year of the event, Denton Halloween increased traffic to Denton’s downtown by 145,000 people. The month-long event hosted over 200 events with 15 placemaking spaces scattered around the downtown area, creating micro-destinations for people to visit and explore. These two art installations will be an exciting, new addition to our existing Halloween placemaking offerings.
