Specifications include, but are not limited to: The mission of the Amarillo Hospital District (District) is to provide medical care to the indigent and needy cityizens of Amarillo, Texas and Potter County. On May 7,1996, the District, with the approval of the District Council of the District of Amarillo, soldthe Hospital to Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), a hsopital management company basded in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. In additon to the sales proceeds, the District received a very favorable cotnract with UHS to provide health care to the indigent citizens covered by the District. This indigent care contract was part of the consideration for the sale of the hospital and is in place through 2036. Currently, the District has no employees, no hospital or related facilities. The District is unlike most taxing entities in that it does not levy a property tax (since 1996).
