Comprehensive Self-Contained Curriculum: EC to Transition Age United ISD requires a comprehensive, self-contained unit curriculum designed for the unique needs of students from Early Childhood (EC) through Transition-Age Adulthood. Early Childhood (Ages 3-5) For the district’s youngest learners (ages 3-5) in self-contained settings, the curriculum must provide a holistic and inclusive learning experience. This includes educational approaches utilizing themes, activities, and games to enhance student engagement and learning. The program should support students in becoming independent learners working at their own pace and in group settings, using a data-driven approach. It must prioritize nurturing literacy, language, social communication, and social-emotional skills to establish a strong foundation for future academic and life success. K-12+ and Transition The curriculum for K-12+ and Transition students will support the academic growth of students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained environment. It must employ a standards-first practice, aligning Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with grade-level academic content standards to ensure students with disabilities have access to and progress in the general education curriculum. The design should build essential life skills in social, language, and behavior. A whole-child approach is expected, focusing on driving measurable outcomes and providing meaningful learning opportunities while monitoring student progress to prepare them for a successful transition into adulthood.
